Friends,

Happy New Year and welcome to 2020!  It’s the start of a new decade and, fittingly so, the start of something new for Garden Dreams.  Let me explain…

The Gift of Garden Dreams

As many of you know, I got married a little while back and over the last couple of years, I’ve been steadily moving my life to Maine. During this time, I’ve been working to transition Garden Dreams in a way that ensures a strong, sustainable future. Much like one of our seedlings, I want Garden Dreams to thrive. I want it to continue bringing you value and joy for many decades to come.

To that end, I’ve been working with Grow Pittsburgh, the Allegheny Land Trust, my dedicated farm manager, and a very insightful adviser over the last year and a half to transition the farm to “new” parents and I’m very happy to report that success is ours! As of January 1st, the farm is owned by the Allegheny Land Trust and beginning this season, it will be operated by Grow Pittsburgh. By donating the property to the Land Trust and transferring the operations to Grow Pittsburgh, the farm will remain a little green oasis for Hamnett Place, bring growing value to you for years to come, and continue to provide a loved workplace for Garden Dreams staff.

This will be an exciting year with many big and long held dreams coming to fruition. While you’ll continue to find awesome seedlings and see familiar faces this season (including mine at some point in May I hope), you’ll also see some new plans unfolding. Grow Pittsburgh’s plans include a year-round climate-controlled greenhouse, an expanded education program, a community gathering space, additional garden beds on an adjoining lot and more! All these plans, slated to start this summer, thrill me to no end!

News on these developments and more will come from Grow Pittsburgh going forward. I’m excited for the future and grateful for the past. Being a part of Garden Dreams has been a true gift in my life. You and all the wonderful staff over the years have made it so. Thank you!

Once again… Happy New Year. I wish you much health, happiness and prosperity.

And as always… Happy Gardening!
