Growing your own food has incredible benefits, and Grow Pittsburgh is happy to support backyard gardeners. We believe that everyone has the right to have fresh fruits and vegetables, and a backyard garden is one way to do that.
If you’re just getting started with gardening, check out our workshops or the Info Hub. It’s our collection of techniques, tips, and tricks for gardening. You’ll find information on soil testing, transplanting seedlings, and even how to navigate urban agriculture policy in Pittsburgh.
Once you’re equipped with knowledge, you’ll need tools. That’s where our Garden Resource Center comes in. The Garden Resource Center is a tool-lending library and materials depot for residents of Allegheny County. Register for the GRC and you can borrow tools and get access to materials like compost, topsoil, and wood chips.
Once your garden is up and running, we’d love to hear about it. Add your backyard garden to our Grower’s Map and be part of the growing number of people growing their own food in our region! (Don’t worry, your responses won’t be shown with an exact location.)
