Garden Dreams Urban Farm & Nursery is Grow Pittsburgh’s USDA certified organic farm and greenhouse located at 806 Holland Ave in Wilkinsburg.
The annual plant sale runs mid April through late June each year.
The greenhouse allows Grow Pittsburgh to grow seedlings that will become and abundance of food for the community, as well as provide workforce development and educational programming. The greenhouse complex yields more than 35,000 seedlings each year.
The urban farm and greenhouse at Garden Dreams provide plants to urban farmers, schools, community gardeners, and home growers throughout our community.
History
This urban farm and plant nursery, previously owned and operated as a private business by Grow Pittsburgh co-founder Mindy Schwartz, was a treasure in the local urban agriculture community for nearly 20 years. In December 2019, Schwartz donated the property to Allegheny Land Trust to own and preserve in perpetuity with Grow Pittsburgh partnering to run the urban farm and greenhouse operations.
In 2021, Grow Pittsburgh and Allegheny Land Trust preserved the site for urban agriculture through a community land trust agreement, and two new greenhouses were added to double growing capacity. The seedlings grown here yield an abundance of fresh food each season for thousands of residents across the county through gardens, backyards and urban farms.

Community Agriculture Hub
To address widening inequities in food access, we are dreaming big. Grow Pittsburgh’s Community Agriculture Hub at Garden Dreams will address critical gaps in access to fresh healthy food. This new hub will increase food security in distressed communities, serve as a center of education and training for urban growers, support the strong network of gardens and urban farms throughout our region, and improve quality of life for residents in Wilkinsburg and other underserved communities throughout Greater Pittsburgh.

Our seedling sale typically operates from from April 15 – June 22 throughout various locations, but with a lot of variety and abundance available at Garden Dreams. We look forward to meeting all of your plant needs and welcoming you to our greenhouses!
