For many of our neighbors, raising their own food is an affordable way to eat healthier, access culturally appropriate foods, and improve the environment.

However, many challenges stand in the way, from zoning laws to financial constraints.  Grow Pittsburgh works to increase opportunities for residents to grow produce and raise farm animals in Allegheny County for personal and commercial use.

Our advocacy has taken many forms over the years, from building consensus around a policy framework through surveys, focus groups, and the Urban Agriculture Symposium we hosted in December 2013, to advocating for specific policy initiatives, like reforming the PA Seed Law and the Pittsburgh Urban Agriculture Zoning Code.
