For the fourth year in a row, the Great Garden Giveaway will provide plants and seeds to eligible individuals who attend any of the five “Produce to People” food distributions, May 20 through June 21.

This year, the law offices of Leech Tishman as well as the Office of the Allegheny County Controller have joined Grow Pittsburgh and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank in this effort to encourage residents to grow their own produce. This produce can be for their own consumption, to share with neighbors and relatives, or to donate back to their neighborhood food pantry for others to enjoy.

Thank you to representatives of Leech Tishman and the County Controller’s office who provided support through raising funds and providing volunteers at the Great Garden Giveaway distributions. Thanks in addition to the County Controller’s office staff who packaged seeds for distribution!

Eligible recipients of the Great Garden Giveaway will receive a tomato and pepper plant, packets of seeds, and if needed a bucket with soil for planting in at each of the distributions.

Additional Great Garden Giveaway sponsors include Organic Mechanics, Evey True value Hardware and Johnny’s Seeds. Seedling sponsors for each distribution site include: Brenckles Farms and Greenhouses; Chatham University, Eden Hall Campus, Falk School of Sustainability, Master of Fine Arts Food Studies students; Garden Dreams Urban Farm and Nursery; Blackberry Meadows Farms; and Soergels Orchard.
