There are several ways to lend a hand with our staff or learn more about what we do. Check out the options below and we hope to see you soon!

For all opportunities with Grow Pittsburgh, be sure to dress for the weather in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring water and sun protection.

Monthly Volunteer Project (MVP)

Join us at either Shiloh Farm or Braddock Farms for an early Saturday morning volunteering project May-October. Help out with the farm tasks, take a tour with our staff and finish out your productive morning by shopping at the farm stand.

Apply to become a Workshare Volunteer

We have three workshare volunteer programs at Grow Pittsburgh. Workshares commit to 4 hours/week on one of the sites for the duration of the growing season which runs from May through October.

  • Sign up for Vegetable Workshare at one of our vegetable farms. Choose to volunteer at either Shiloh Farm, or Braddock Farm.  In exchange for their hard work, Vegetable Workshares are provided a weekly box of fresh, farm-grown produce.
  • Sign up for a Flower Workshare at Garden Dreams Nursery. Garden Dreams workshares receive seedlings or a cut flower share
  • Sign up for GRC Workshare. Garden Resource Center workshares receive a free GRC membership

Apply to become a Pre-apprentice

The Pre-apprenticeship is a program in partnership with Pasa Sustainable Agriculture for those who have little or no growing experience but are interested in exploring a farming career.  This is a two-year program, where participants will volunteer four hours per week on our farm sites doing a variety of farm tasks and receive a share of vegetables as well as free admission to relevant workshops and conferences.

Applicants for the Pre-apprenticeship Program can choose one of our two farm sites to learn on: Braddock Farm or Shiloh Farm.
