The Garden Resource Center (GRC) is a tool-lending library and garden materials depot. We reduce barriers to growing food by making it easier for gardeners in our region to access the tools and supplies they need to grow beautiful and productive home and community gardens. For a sliding scale annual membership fee, the GRC allows patrons to access free garden tool rentals and bulk materials such as organic compost, mulch, and soil amendments.

More Information

We’re adjusting our suggested Garden Resource Center membership prices for 2026 to better reflect our costs. The good news is we are still offering a sliding scale to ensure flexibility and accessibility for all.  And you’re still getting a great value from your membership!

The retail value of an Individual membership is $345.  This is based solely on the 15 buckets of our bulk materials per month and a bale of straw that are available to you as a member. We know that the value of the membership is so much more than the retail value of the bulk materials and includes tool rentals, gardening advice, and a sense of community.

It costs Grow Pittsburgh an average of $135 per member to run the GRC. And the truth is that current GRC member fees don’t even cover half of the costs of keeping this beloved tool library and community hub open.  We ask those of you who can afford more to pay more. Consider what you might spend on materials and tool rentals in determining the value of your annual membership. If you are able to help cover a portion of someone else’s membership – we greatly appreciate that!
