Starting in 2012, the Clairton community worked hard to convert an abandoned lot into a combination of individual raised beds and an in-ground community growing section. A berm was constructed to help with erosion control, native pollinator gardens have been planted to attract pollinating insects, and a deer fence was installed around the perimeter of the lot to keep out unwanted pests. The garden has since yielded an abundance of tomatoes, squash, lettuce, cucumbers, greens, and more that is shared amongst neighbors.
