DESCRIPTION:Community Composter School is an opportunity for folks who work with an existing compost site (often at a community garden) to become advanced compost managers and skilled compost educators. Supplies are provided and consultation will be available to each participant as you make progress with your compost site. Attend this info session for more details and to start your application to be part of the 2024 cohort. \nThere are 6 modules in the program\, with 1-2 supplemental field trips. Some sessions will take place on Zoom but most will be in person\, outdoors\, with hands-on activities. CCS sessions will mostly take place every other Tuesday evening in April\, May\, and June. Modules include topics on soil and decomposition science\, compost basics and composting systems\, compost site design and management\, rebuilding urban soils\, and reaching and teaching others. SUMMARY:Making Handmade Paper from Garden Waste & Invasive Japanese Knotweed
DESCRIPTION:Participants will partake in an exploration of paper-making processes and Japanese knotweed invasion history while creating sheets of handmade paper using sustainable practices. Participants of all ages will assist in beating garden waste and invasive plant fibers to a pulp! They will also make sheets of paper by hand and embellish the paper with a collection of choice natural materials as well as textures and collage materials. The “wet on wet” collage methods are tactile and spontaneous\, and everything is held together with natural science\, not glue! Each participant will go home with several sheets of handmade paper. Although they will be wet\, each paper creation will travel home safely inside a recycled folder to dry overnight.
