Virtual Fall Festival Week
October 12, 2020 - October 16, 2020
Join us on social media for a week of fall farm festivities: Video tutorials released throughout the week will include how-tos for natural, fall-themed crafts, everything you need to know about planting garlic and how to mill sorghum. Stay tuned for more details!
Pittsburgh Pumpkin Contest: Are you growing pumpkins at home this year? Maybe they’re extra cute and small? Or perhaps you’re on a mission to grow the biggest pumpkin in the Burgh this fall! Are your pumpkins just all-around good lookin’ gourds? Snap a pic, send it to us, or tag @growpittsburgh on social media and #pghpumpkins so we can see them and get in the spirit of fall together. There may or may not be prizes for particularly gourdgeous pumpkins…
Tuesdays in October: FREE sorghum milling at Braddock Farms! Did you take home some of the sorghum seeds we handed out at last year’s Fall Festival? Come get your stalks pressed into a delicious juice reminiscent of apple cider, or boil down to syrup! Bring stalks stripped of leaves with the seed heads cut off and your own jug(s) for storing. Sorghum stalks do not have a long shelf life so we recommend harvesting the same day ideally or the night before for best results. The juice is a delicious beverage reminiscent of apple cider, enjoy if the same way or boil down to syrup!
In order to practice safe social distancing, we ask that you schedule a time for sorghum milling by emailing Farmer Nick Lubecki at email@example.com.
