GP Ceramics: Fermentation Crocks

July 14 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Are you looking for a way to ferment some of your garden bounty? Join artist Miriam Griffin to make your very own water-lock fermentation crock out of clay! In this three hour workshop, you’ll hand-build your own crock, lid and have a chance to decorate the surface. No experience necessary!

How it works: After your water-sealed crock is packed, two half-circle weights are placed into the crock to keep your ferment submerged. Then, the lid is placed into an open moat which is then filled with water. Now, outside air is prevented from entering the crock and carbon dioxide gases created during fermentation easily bubble out.
