The African Healing Garden is a place for people to connect with the living world with all five senses.

The site was originally an herbal and health garden created by Ora Lee Carol over 15 years ago after a house burned down across the street from where she lived. The garden was one of many tools Ms. Carol used to mentor youth and encourage positive community interest. When she became ill the site had less human stewardship. Many perennial plants well suited for the site survived several years of being left alone including a pear tree she planted. Over the years the garden owner, Betty Lane, and the garden neighbors have enjoyed the pears and the sweet smells from the herbs.
Now the place is being transformed to increase biodiversity, provide a more enticing environment for kids and neighbors to experience the healing properties of plants, water and all that nature can pack into a city lot.
