The Community Garden Sustainability Fund is a partnership between Grow Pittsburgh and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy that provides material and technical assistance to established community food gardens in Allegheny County. These include gardens managed by schools, community organizations, shelters, religious institutions and individuals. The Sustainability Fund supports projects that will improve or enhance gardens so that they may have a long-lasting positive impact as part of their communities. The program has been active since 2013, having supported 80+ community gardens with over $77,000 of materials.

There are two options: “Small Potatoes” which are generally smaller projects – such as tools, seeds, rain barrels, soil amendments or compost bins – and require less staff time (applications due April 1st and October 1st) and “Big Tomatoes” which are larger or more expensive projects that generally require more staff time (application due June 1st).
The first round of Small Potatoes applications is open March 1 – April 1, 2018. Big Tomatoes applications open April 15 and will be due June 1, 2018.
