The 2015 Allegheny Grows Application is available now!
Allegheny Grows is a partnership of Grow Pittsburgh and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and is a program of Allegheny County Economic Development. Through the program, existing and newly developing community vegetable gardens in low-to-moderate income communities throughout Allegheny County (not including the City of Pittsburgh) receive education, planning resources, and technical assistance. We tailor our help to the needs of the community, providing support for up to two full years as the garden group achieves self-sufficiency.
The program is designed to support and utilize community gardening activities to:
Return vacant land to productive, visually enhancing use
Provide a platform for community engagement through a shared project
Secure sources of fresh, local, and healthy produce for communities
Educate communities on running a community gardening initiative
The program is in its fifth year and has already developed community gardens in Millvale, McKees Rocks, Penn Hills, Bellevue, Wilkinsburg, Natrona, Clairton, Coraopolis (pictured above), Homestead, and Mt. Oliver (pictured below).
