Urban Farm Apprenticeship
In 2012, Grow Pittsburgh launched a formal adult intern and apprentice program to meet rising demand for more hands-on work in urban agriculture across the region.
We offer apprentice positions at our Braddock Farms, Frick Greenhouse and Shiloh Farm sites. Through this program, we hope to introduce interested individuals to the inner workers of a production farm in an urban environment while supporting their individualized learning and career goals. Participants take part in all aspects of running the farm, including growing seeds and produce, maintaining the sites, harvesting food for sale and selling that product in both a community and restaurant setting. In addition, participants engage in weekly off-farm educational workshops and field trips to expand their learning and help them reach their educational goals. Participants go on to work at various levels of the local food system from starting their own farm, working on other local farms, working at the food bank, or engaging in other food-based nonprofit work.
- New for 2017, the Urban Farm Apprenticeship will offer two separate 12 week terms at Grow Pittsburgh Production sites. The first term is from April 4, 2017 to June 22, 2017. The second term is from June 20, 2017 to September 7, 2017

In addition to our on-farm opportunities, Grow Pittsburgh offers office-based internships in education, marketing and evaluation. Individuals selected for these positions work with our staff to advance the mission of the organization through specific project assignments and work directly with program managers.
