In partnership with The Frick Pittsburgh, Grow Pittsburgh manages the greenhouse on the Frick site in Point Breeze. The greenhouse enables us to grow produce year-round, and prepare seedlings for the growing season.
In 2006, The Frick Pittsburgh approached Grow Pittsburgh, offering the use of their beautiful, Victorian greenhouse. We began the partnership in 2007, renovating the greenhouse beds for food production. Additionally, we began to grow food crops in the Kitchen Garden, adjacent to the Frick Playhouse.
Every year, we use organic growing practices to produce vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings at the Frick greenhouse. We sell these seedlings to the public from late Apr. through mid-June, during the hours The Frick is open. We also supply seedlings to our Community Gardens program and Edible Schoolyard gardens, and donate to local groups and gardeners.
The Frick grounds are free and open to the public. Visitors are welcome to tour the greenhouse year-round and gain inspiration from the kitchen garden, which serves as an excellent model for backyard gardening.
Produce from the Frick greenhouse and kitchen garden is sold through multiple outlets including our weekly, seasonal farm stand at Shiloh Farm, biweekly at the Homewood Farmers Market, directly to the Café at the Frick, and to other area restaurants and individuals through our membership with Penn’s Corner Farm Alliance.
