Grow Pittsburgh’s summer intern program is designed to employ youth from local communities to work in urban farming settings. The goals of the program include character building, hands of gardening, and nutritional and environmental education.
The summer youth program supervisors will provide direct supervision of the summer youth interns at each site. The supervisor will be responsible for daily schedule plans, team building activities, documenting attendance and compensation records, and demonstrating through action the value of hands on work. The supervisor will educate the youth interns in the art of selecting, planting, cultivating, harvesting and preparation/eating of vegetables. When appropriate the supervisor and interns will participate in the marketing and sale of the vegetables that they have grown.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
- Attend one week training program prior to start of program
- Supervise daily activities of youth interns
- Collect and maintain all necessary documentation
- Work with site manager to plan work that compliments site requirements
- Attend weekly planning meetings
- Implement nutrition and environmental curriculum
- Work with youth interns on all garden tasks
- Lead by example
- Participate on all field trips

Minimum Requirements:
- Experience with youth leadership programs
- Engaged in complimentary course of study
- Good verbal communication skills
- Hands-on garden experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and bend for eight hours

Salary $10.00 per hour for 300 hours/ 30 hours per week for 10 weeks
