YOUTH SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM

The Grow Pittsburgh Summer Intern Program provides hands-on urban farm training for youth ages 14-16. Started in 2005, the program involves youth in its mission to model, teach and facilitate sustainable urban agriculture in the Pittsburgh region.

The Summer Intern Program supports existing projects such as the Edible Schoolyard and Braddock Farms. [We encourage all applicants to read about these projects on our website before applying.] Internship placement depends on program needs as well as the interests of selected interns. The internships run for 8 weeks, and participants receive a stipend.

No previous agricultural experience is necessary. Skills are learned on the job. It's a great opportunity to work outside in our communities growing fresh, healthy food.

Skills/Responsibilities:

planting, weeding, transplanting, watering, composting, harvesting, vegetable sales & distribution

Requirements:

dependability, willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities, ability to work well with other people, enthusiasm about the project, good communication skills

Benefits:

cultivation of leadership skills, contribution to one's community, relationship building with people of all ages, increased knowledge of plant cycles and environmental practices

Applicants must be 14-16 years of age during Summer they are applying for. A work permit is required.
