Pittsburgh Urban Growers Coop Intensive: Urban Farm Risk Assessment and Food Safety Planning

This is the second of a two-day training with Lindsay Gilmour.

A practical farm food safety program is built upon an assessment of risk throughout your operations. We will conduct risk assessments on two urban farms, and begin creating the outline of the quality assurance program for the Pittsburgh Urban Growers Coop. All current and future members of the PUGC are encouraged to attend. If possible, please also try to attend Day 1 of this two-day training.

The training is free to Pittsburgh urban Growers Cooperative present and potential future members. Register by contacting Marisa at marisa@growpittsburgh.org to register.

We will meet at the Hazelwood Library parking lot, then head to Hazelwood Urban Farm, then to Braddock Farms for on-site risk assessments. The morning will conclude with a discussion at the Hazelwood Library.

Presenter
Lindsay Gilmour, owner of Organic Planet LLC, has more than 12 years in Value Chain Coordination, helping farmers meet the demands of the wholesale marketplace. Her current focus is GAP food safety education. She is trained in Produce GAPs Harmonized Food Safety Standards, is a qualified USDA internal auditor for the Harmonized Standards, and an internal auditor for ISO quality management systems for agricultural operations. She is a trainer for the FDA Produce Safety Rule, and is a “qualified individual” under the FDA Preventative Controls regulation. Lindsay is very excited about helping farmers work together to achieve food safety certification.
